Obituary for Martha "Trudy" Gertraud Kerr (Ellmer)

Martha "Trudy" Gertraud Kerr (Ellmer)
Martha “Trudy” Kerr, 96, of Strafford, MO, died December 1, 2014, as a result of injuries suffered in a recent fall.

She was born March 9, 1918, in Würzburg, Germany, to Georg and Martha Ellmer. She graduated from her local Realschule and worked as a store manager in Bavaria during WWII. After the war she met and married Otis Kerr, an American soldier. She returned with him to the US in 1948 and became a naturalized American citizen. Over the following years, she worked in many occupations—at the PX for the US Army, as a homemaker, as a farmer, as an inspector at Lily-Tulip, and as a realtor. After her husband’s death in 1981, she lived quietly in retirement, always busy with a project, enjoying reading, feeding birds, gardening, playing cards, her church, and spending time with her family.

She will be fondly remembered by all as a strong-willed, sharp-witted and devout woman, devoted to her church and her family.

She is survived by her three children (Norbert, Conrad Burton, and Barbara Ann Kerr), five grandchildren (Benjamin Kerr, Gabriel Kerr, Joshua Wald-Kerr, Melissa Kerr, & Jennifer Kerr), four great-grandchildren (Taylor Cobb, Julia Arthur, Judah Kerr, & Wrenna Kerr), a sister in Heidingsfeld, Germany (Inge Spann), and many nieces, nephews, and in-laws. Beside her husband, she is preceeded by three sisters (Marianne Puschert, Greti Engelhardt, Ruth Markert) and a brother (Konrad Ellmer).

Her funeral will be held on Saturday, December 6, at 11:00 am at the Pleasant Valley Church, north of Springfield. A visitation will take place at the church prior to the funeral at 10:00am. Later that day there will be a private interment for family in Macks Creek, MO.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Trudy's name to:
Pleasant Valley Non-Denominational Church (722 E. Farm Road 80, Springfield, MO 65803).
The DAV (Disabled American Veterans Chapter 11, 1708 E. St. Louis, Springfield, MO 65802).
