Obituary for John Kevin Hornback

John Kevin Hornback
John Kevin Hornback, age 51, died of natural causes on November 11, 2014. Kevin was born on March 1, 1963, in Springfield, Missouri, to Paul and Frieda Hornback.
Kevin was a life-long resident of Springfield, Missouri, where he attended Disney Elementary, Cherokee Middle School, Kickapoo High School and Missouri State University. He trained as a motorcycle technician and worked in this industry prior to becoming an insurance adjuster for American National Property and Casualty.
Kevin had a brilliant mind, a quick wit, and a deep passion for all things related to the Civil War. His expertise on Civil War history was widely known. Kevin enjoyed historical research; his keen knowledge and interesting stories of the Civil War attracted many friends around the country who shared his love of history.
As a writer, Kevin's ability to create word pictures was unmatched; had he lived, perhaps he would have been a published author. He was a voracious reader and consumer of facts. He particularly enjoyed digging into little known stories and personalities in order to add human interest to actual historical events. At the time of his death, Kevin was working on books about the Civil War events in the Trans-Mississippi area.
Before his health declined, Kevin loved to race motorcycles and golf. He happily engaged others in conversation on any topic because he knew something about almost everything! He loved the St. Louis Cardinals and rarely missed an episode of Jeopardy----because he could answer most questions faster than the contestants!
Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 21, 2014 in Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 10:30 to 11:00 a.m. before the service. Inurnment will follow in Maple Park Cemetery, Springfield.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Foundation for Springfield Public Schools, 1133 Boonville, Springfield, MO 65802.
