Obituary for Alexander Letunovskiy

Alexander Letunovskiy
Alexander Letunovskiy was born on 4th of July 1952. He was born in former USSR to a Baptist pastor of a local church of 30 years. After having completed his mandatory service in the army, he came home, got married, and in 1973 invited Christ into his heart. Thus began his new life.

Although Alexander was respected and admired by his coworkers and his superiors, nonetheless, he was often called "on the carpet", questioned, shamed and even arrested by militia for professing his Christian faith. Communists made it their mission to eradicate all remnants of faith, and mercilessly persecuted the believers. By God's grace, Alexander was never imprisoned, as he had a very large family of 10 children, and the government was not likely looking forward to feeding 10 mouths until adulthood. Inevitably, they would let him go, having fined him again and again, and having threatened him with various threats. He went through a very tough life, but wanted to build a better life for his children. In 1990, at the age of 38, he moved his family to USA, seeking freedom from religious prosecution.

Life of an immigrant wasn't easy. Not being able to speak any English, and no one to turn to for a quick translation, he had to find ways to communicate with the sponsors, learn to write checks, pay bills, and perform many other functions, that are unique to this culture and are assumed universal in nature.

His strength, was in his ability to make friends. Alexander was sincere in building all of his relationships, and there was hardly a day when someone wasn't coming over to visit his house. His doors were always opened for people. Being a Christian man, most of his friends were also Christian. Frequent gatherings always resulted in studying the bible, praying, singing praises, and worshiping God.

Walking before God was Alexander's utmost priority. His favorite quote that he repeated often, was borrowed from Colossians 3:17; "And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him." That was his motto, that was his philosophy, that was his lifestyle.

Alexander loved singing praises and worshiping God. He believed in God with all his heart, and lived his life exactly as he believed. He was a devoted follower of Jesus. He preached the gospel with word and deed, and never let a day go by, without a prayer, or reading of his bible. While most people navigate their life "lightening up the mood" by having a hobby, or some form of entertainment, Alexander's satisfaction came from the word of God, as he loved to study it, discuss it, preach it, and live it out - daily.

Alexander's last place of employment was Purdy (a Sherwin-Williams company), where he worked for over 13 years, before he had to part with them, for his disability. All this time he lived in Vancouver, WA. Alexander moved to Ozark, MO in 2012, as he wanted to be closer to his son Ilya, and get away from an abundance of Northwest’s precipitation.

Alexander's grandest legacy is his love for Jesus, and the gospel. He often quoted 1 Timothy 1:15; "Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners—of whom I am the worst." He was never heard complaining of anything. Not once did he raise his voice. He was always polite, pleasant, attentive to the needs of others, always putting the needs of others ahead of his own. He lived his life in such a way that manifested that his residence on earth was of temporal in nature. His goal was heaven, his love was Christ crucified.

He loved all his children very much, and even more all of his grandchildren. He took incredible pleasure to help his sons and daughters with his grandchildren, whom he often took on walks, trips to parks, and other activities that delight every child. Often, looking back, people refer to people like Alexander as "an angel among us", but he was an ordinary man, who loved Christ, lived and breathed the gospel, and showed with every fiber of his being, what an incredible privilege it was to be a true child of God.

Alexander is survived by his wife Valentina, his 3 sisters, Dina, Nadya and Tamara, and his 10 children, Elena, Serge, Ilya, Alex (Sasha), Vera, David, Nicole, Amy, Tanya, and Alex (Lesha), and 17 grandchildren.

He will be missed greatly. He was a man with a BIG HEART, and although his physical heart had failed him, his "spiritual heart" will forever live in the hearts of people, whose lives he had touched - his children, his wife, his friends.
