Obituary for Robert "Bob" Vinyard Jr.

Robert “Bob” Vinyard, Jr. ascended to the Lord, Jesus Christ, on June 3rd, 2014, after a long illness. He was born February 10th, 1928 to Dr. Robert and Marie Thompson Vinyard in St. Louis.

After the family moved to Springfield, Bob attended Greenwood School and later was graduated from Drury and Vanderbilt University, Nashville, Tennessee. While in school, he was active in sports, was a member of Kappa Alpha Fraternity, and was president of the radio club. Other interests included history and politics. Bob was married to Paula Ann Lohmeyer in June, 1950. He was a loving father to their three children.

His career in broadcasting began in Nashville, took him to Greenwich, Connecticut and eventually brought him back to Springfield, where he was a sportscaster for KICK radio. Bob became station manager of KICK, and remained during its many years as a top 40 rock station. In later years, he worked as a senior citizens coordinator for Congressman Mel Hancock. Bob was a member of First and Calvary Church and in later life, he and Paula attended a revolving home church.

Club memberships throughout his life included Rotary Club, Pachyderms, the Elks, and New Wine Youth Ministry, which he directed during the 1970’s.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Paula; sister, Jean Brown; and two children, Robert Paul Vinyard and Kay Langsford.

He is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Ann Vinyard and grandson, Robby Langsford.

Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, June 9th, 2014 in Hazelwood Cemetery with Dr. Rod Butterworth officiating, under the care of Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home, 500 E. Walnut St. No formal visitation is planned but friends may call Sunday, June 8th, between 2:00 and 5:00 p.m. in the funeral home. The casket will be closed at all times.
