Lorraine Violet  Melton (Allen)
Lorraine Violet Melton, 96, died Friday, July 10, 2015, of natural causes. At the time of her death, she as a resident of Glendale Gardens Nursing and Rehab.
Lorraine was born March 10, 1919, in Hurricane, WV, 6th of 11 children. She was a devout Christian, and a member of the Lutheran Church.
She joined the navy in 1944, and was in active service for 8 years. Her rank at her honorable discharge was Chief Teleman (Cryptographer). She met and married John D Melton in Hawaii, where both were stationed. One son, John E. Melton, was born of this union. They later divorced.
The family moved to Missouri in the mid 1950’s.
Lorraine worked into her 70’s, mostly as a bookkeeper and other clerical positions, including Glasgow Menswear, Easter Seals, The Kitchen, and later through AARP Senior Community Service Employment Program.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, John E. and Barbara Melton; sister Charlotte Allen Costantini of CA; brother and sister-in-law Pearl and Rachel Allen of WV; several nieces and nephews, and 3 step-grandchildren and 6 step-great-grandchildren.
Graveside with military honors will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday July 15, 2015 in Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Springfield, MO, under the care of Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home. No visitation is planned.
The family would like to thank the staff, nurses, and all personnel at Glendale Gardens Nursing and Rehab (formerly Christian Health Care East) for the past years of excellent and compassionate care.
