Doris Fullerton Burgess Falk gently moved to her heavenly home on September 18, 2014; she was 88 years young. For the last several months, Doris has been residing at the Woodland Manor Care Facility. Doris was born in Paragould, Arkansas on June 11, 1926 but moved to Springfield with her Mother and brother when she was in her teens. Doris went to work as a long distance operator for Southwestern Bell while still in high school and was so employed for two years prior to graduating from Central High School in 1944. She remained with Bell for nearly 20 years. During her working career Doris was also employed with Cox Health and Keith Distributing Company. Doris married Charles Preston Burgess in 1948 and they had 5 children together. Tragedy took Preston away when the youngest of the children was only 6 months old. Doris raised her children as a single parent with the support of her friends and the church. In 1986, Doris began her second lease on life when she married Roland Bud Falk. Doris and Bud settled in Wichita Falls, Texas where they lived happily together for 16 years prior to Bud’s demise. Doris returned to Springfield in 2011. Doris was predeceased by her mother and father Edna and Wilson Fullerton, her brothers Ray and Dave Fullerton, her husband Preston and then husband Bud. She was also predeceased by beloved oldest son Charlie Burgess. Doris is survived by her daughter Brenda and three sons, Johnnie, Roy, and Brian. Surviving as well are daughters-in-law and a son-in-law: Steve Dodge, Angela, Brenda Sue, and Kathy Burgess. There are 7 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Doris grew up during the Great Depression and became a young adult during World War Two. She was extremely proud to be a member of the greatest generation. Doris worked very hard during her lifetime and repeatedly demonstrated tremendous tenacity in the face of overwhelming adversity. She loved the Lord Jesus Christ and considered him to be a constant companion in her journey through life. Without question Doris will be greatly missed by the loved ones she leaves behind, and warmly received by the loved ones that greet her in heaven.
